An Absolute Beginners Guide to iPhone development
i found this link today while combing through some tweets in my favorite little twitter application twhirl.
the guys @ Switch on the Code have put together a VERY simple and easy to understand guide to making your first little "hello world" application for the iPhone. all you need is the following:
- a mac computer and the iPhone SDK
- Xcode
- Interface Builder
- iPhone Simulator that you can use for free.
if you want to actually put your new App on an actual iPhone or into the AppStore, you have to pay the $99 fee.
i really want to build an iPhone application, and i plan to, trust me! But until then, im just going to collect more links, store them here, and hopefully build a nice little pool of guides that will help me!
now, if someone would just buy a new MacBook Pro 15" with 4gb of ram, i'd be able to get started!

@Peter the most recent MacUser reviewed the current Mac desktop line. The lower end Mac Miini got a better review than the next one up.

here's how they conclude:

Between the two models, it’s tough to justify the additional cost of the $799 mini. Those willing and able to perform their own upgrades should do so. Otherwise you should consider purchasing the $599 model with Apple’s 2GB RAM upgrade and then attaching an external drive; you’ll get more storage for your money, and if you go the FireWire route, you can actually get better performance than that of even the the $799 mini

That said, a friend of mine has a maxed out Mini and runs CF with MySQL on it, and used CFEclipse. I've played with it a bit and its pretty fast for that sort of work. Myself, I'll be picking up a mini in the near future and turning it into a media center for the rec room.
