Tipping Point

You know, I've been thinking a lot about the social networks these days. What a fascinating crew of creatures/machines they've become. I don't think anyone can really predict what will happen to them - and to the Internet as a result.

My personal prediction - which even I wouldn't put any money on given the turbulent nature of the web - is that the "portal" sites will give way to a service oriented web that transparently blends assets and content together in a decentralized fashion. Kind of like Plaxo's Pulse, except that's wrong, too - it's Plaxo, and therefore is a portal.

That's not much of a prediction, I suppose. But it's interesting to think about. I keep thinking Google has the right idea with its API's
